PISCES (Policy Innovation Systems for the Poor) is a 5 year research consortium, with the objective to understand the links and trade-offs between water, food, energy and environmental security, with a focus on the role of bioenergy in increasing energy access and improving livelihoods for the poor in Africa and Asia. The results of the research are aimed at providing new policy-relevant knowledge in the energy sector, thus leading to better practice and tangible impacts on the ground. The consortium is led by the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) in Kenya with University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in Tanzania, University of Edinburgh in the UK, M.S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF)in India and Practical Action in UK, Kenya and Sri Lanka The research falls into three main themes: the technology required to provide sustainable bioenergy services; the access and delivery models that can provide these services; the effects of climate change on bioenergy provision.
