Can biodiesel help reduce climate change?
A 1998 biodiesel lifecycle study sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Agriculture concluded biodiesel reduces a net CO2 emissions by 78 percent compared to petroleum diesel. The reason being, biodiesel has a closed carbon cycle attribute. The CO2 released into the atmosphere from burned biodiesel is recycled by growing plants, which are eventually reprocessed as fuel.
