Biodiesel can be blended with petroleum diesel in any ratio. Common blends are B2, B5, and B20, with B20 being the most common in the US. The number denotes the percentage of biodiesel in the blend,for example, B5 is 5% biodiesel, and 95% regular diesel. Biodiesel has excellent lubricating properties, and a 5 percent blend can increase lubricity up to 65 percent. With the spread of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel, older engines may need this additional lubrication to function properly.
