Can biodegradable plastics sent in the mail (often with bank annual reports) be put in the GreenCart?
No. These bags are not certified compostable, meaning they do not fully break down. Logos on these plastic bags indicate the bags will break down quicker than a typical plastic shopping bag, but that they will only break down into smaller plastic pieces. They are not considered compostable. GreenCart material in regular plastic bags, oxo-biodegradable bags or any bag without the BPI compostable logo will not be collected. Only bags that contain the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) logo are accepted in our program. If items do not have this logo, they cannot go into the GreenCart.
