Can Beta Carotene Pills Save Vision?
Carrots are known to be rich in beta carotene; it was actually believe to sharpen eyesight. But some studies shown the beta carotene pills are ineffective to fight vision loss from older people. Age-related macular degeneration causes blindness to people ages 65 and up. There was a study conducted and showed that beta carotene when taken with zinc and vitamins can prevent vision loss in people who are suffering with age-related macular degeneration. But there is a new study that beta carotene supplement can be helpful in people with such disease. There was also a finding that beta carotene can be harmful to smokers since it can raise the risk of lung cancer. So eye doctors advised smokers with such disease to take vitamin that doesnt contain beta carotene. Dr. Stuart Fine of the University of Pennsylvania’s Scheie Eye Institute who was involved in the study stated that beta carotene is not an important component of that vitamin. About 21,000 male doctors suggested that beta carotene di
