Can bentonite clay aggravate blackheads?

You may have broken out afterwards for several reasons. Clay facials are pretty drying for the skin, drawing moisture out along with the blackheads. The redness you noted afterwards is pretty normal. I’ve noticed that when you first use a clay type mask or facial, you will break out afterwards sometimes. I think it probably is because the pores get opened and the bacteria naturally on the skin can get in, and you also have drawn other blockages to the surface. I think it’s just a matter of getting all the zits that were waiting to the surface faster, as opposed to getting them over the next few weeks you just manage to get them all at once. I noticed that after I used the mask for a few weeks, it didn’t happen any more. It also may be your skin is a bit more sensitive the the drying effect of the clay, so next time you would want to leave it on for a shorter time- say 5-10 minutes. Since you won’t have as many blackheads to draw out, it won’t be necessary to leave it on as long either.
