Can Bacteria Reproduce Asexually Through A Process Called Binary Fusion?

0

I would say that this statement is ‘False’ because although bacteria do reproduce asexually, they do so through a process known as binary ‘fission’ NOT binary ‘fusion’. In general terms, the word ‘fusion’ is used for any process is which two things join together. Simply reading this definition, we can say that this statement is false because to produce more bacteria, they need to divide into more rather than fuse together. The process that bacteria do use though is Binary Fission. What happens in bacteria is that first their genetic material replicates to form two identical sets of genetic material. These two sets then segregate and move to the opposite sides of the bacterial cell. The bacterium then divides in the middle to form two identical offspring that have the same genetic material as the parent bacterium. Under ideal conditions, bacteria can divide every twenty minutes.
