Can babies drink breastmilk staright fro the refrigerator without warming it up?”
Our daughter is now 10 months old and my wife is done breastfeeding (she got really sick and had to be on medication). Typically babies will drink the breastmilk at room temp or warmer. My wife used to freeze her breastmilk and then run it under warm water for a few minutes to thaw it out. Our daughter refused to drink the milk cold so we always warmed it. I think every baby is different. I don’t believe there are any dangers feeding your baby cold milk. You should call your pediatrician to be sure. Sources: personal exp.
Children have different preferences, but out of the refrigerator is just fine. As my daughter got older, she didn’t like it was warm and now actually prefers it colder now…which, actually, will make the transition to whole milk all that much easier as it will come out of the fridge! 🙂 Relax and let your little one guide you! He knows what he likes!
Frozen or breastmilk that’s been stored in the fridge will need to be warmed up first, however it is not necessary to warm it up until it’s warm, it can be warmed up until it’s about room temperature. Milk straight from the breast is slightly warmer than room temperature, however room temperature breastmilk is just fine. Generally warmed up milk should be consumed within an hour and cannot be re-froze.
