Can auxiliaries provide products or services to the private markets?

0

The FIU auxiliaries do not provide products/services to the open market due to the tax exempt status of the University. Doing so would provide the University with an unfair competitive advantage versus private sector companies that must collect and pay taxes. The typical exception to this reference would be the Continuing Education Activity. Since the University’s mission is to extend knowledge to the community, this type of activity is warranted and valuable due to the intellectual benefits offered.
