Can Australia be accused of playing negative cricket?
It is pretty obvious that both Australia and India can be accused of playing negative cricket at times. Both sides’ fast bowlers have bowled deliberately wide in an attempt to frustrate the opposition into throwing away their wickets. The real question is – why has this been happening? The answer is that as usual in India, the pitches have been absolute ROADS that have offered the fast bowlers absolutely NOTHING. If the pitches were a little more even in the contest between bat and ball, then the bowlers would actually bowl at the stumps! While these types of pitches clearly advantage India with their superior spinners, they would be advised in the long term to develop a wider variety of pitches for the development of their cricket. The fact that Australia is good in a number of different types of conditions has been part of the key to their domination in the past decade.
I think don’t either team can be accused of positive play, Australia and India don’t seem to play in the spirit of the game when they meet, and it seems both side enjoying playing negative. But added to this i think you should always play for a win, a draw in a match that could mean you don’t lose a series, i think any sports worth his weight should play for the win.
