Can audio & video tracks be locked on the Xpress DV timeline?
A. Unlike other NLE’s, Xpress DV doesn’t allow the user to drag clips around on the timeline without first telling the program to allow it. This assures that your clips will stay where you put them until you decide they need to be moved, giving you an additional level of protection and control not available in other programs. This is done by selecting one of two “segment mode” buttons (yellow arrow or red arrow at the bottom of the timeline.) This means that the Xpress DV timeline is locked by default. However, there are two other ways that clips or tracks on the timeline may also be locked. The first of these, called “sync lock” is used to keep audio and video clips “locked” (synced) together, and is performed by clicking to the immediate left of the track indicator button (V1, A1, etc.), and is indicated by a ” / ” (chunky forward slash).
