Can artificial means of birth control ever be licit?
Artificial birth control can never conform to Church teaching. To impede the sources of life is a violation of the law of God, and a misuse of the gifts which God has granted to mankind. Doing so proves that a person is moved by fear or selfishness, not by love. Everything becomes clouded because husband and wife begin to look at each other as objects of use, rather than as subjects of love. Ironically, they may experience a growing estrangement from each other in the midst of more frequent sexual acts, accepting the part of each other that gives pleasure, while rejecting that part which may bring life. In so doing, however, the couple negates the nuptial meaning of their bodies, for the human body, the human person is a gift from God that is capable of sharing life, and in choosing to contracept, they refuse to share.
