Can Aristotle Guide Us to Ethical Decisions? Thursday September 17, 2009Harvard professor Michael J. Sandel, author of Justice, thinks so. On the Today Show this morning, Sandel grilled host Meredith Vieira on a series of ethical dilemmas. When asked what she would do if bequeathed a valuable flute, (1) keep it, (2) sell it to a collector, or (3) give it to a great musician, she selected (3). Sandel said that was the choice Aristotle would have made because the musician deserved it. “Justice is a matter of desert, of honoring excellence, the best flute player. And in a way, these debates…. [are about] what we should honor as a community.” [Clip]More on Ethical Philosophy •
