Can anything be done to ease the pain and make it better?
The application of a warm, wet compress to the area three or four times a day can help relieve the pain and bring the boil to a head. Each application should be about 20 minutes. The application of heat increases circulation in that area to help combat the infection. Warm epsom salt baths can also help. It is important to keep the boil area clean. Wash with an antibacterial soap. Antibacterial creams can help. You should consult your physician in any of the following cases: * if the boil is very large * if you have significant inflammation * if you have a fever * if the boil is in a sensitive area (armpit, groin, breast, lip, nose, or between your buttocks).
