They can (and sometimes do) take damage. Possible causes: a power issue causing damage to the ports, physical stress (something banged into them, or just wear and tear, although that’s less likely with a keyboard port than one that’s being used for something like a digital camera, that’s being unplugged and plugged in all the time) either wearing out the port or knocking it loose from the motherboard inside. IF you feel comfortable with the idea, then you can turn your computer off, open it up, find the ports, and see if they feel loose. If they do and they’re plugged in (not built in), then you can gently try to reseat them. If they seem solid, or if they’re a part of the motherboard, then you can actually get a USB card that slots into your motherboard and gives you more USB slots. This will save you from having to replace your entire motherboard. If you aren’t comfortable with it, then it should only be about an hour’s labour inshop to have them look at it and add a new USB card if
