Can anyone tell me when the best time to visit san francisco?

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and work in the city. The best weather is in the summer (May through mid October), although you will find that normally the temperature will change every few days. So, we’ll have sunny, hot weather for 3 or 4 days, and then one or two days of dense fog in the summer. In recent years, we’ve had some 2 – 3 weeks of extreme hot (for us, in the 90’s), though, so you never can tell. As you are considering the end of the year, you may find that it gets down into the 50’s most of the time (not that bad!). The coolness of the air is invigorating at that time of the year, and the wharf area is beautiful at holiday time. As far as the “water” being warm, most people don’t swim in the ocean up here… if they do, they are in wetsuits for the cold water (all year long), and are surfing. Otherwise, they are just at the beaches getting their feet wet, so if you need to swim in an ocean, go to Florida or southern California. Shopping is stellar, but I don’t know
