Can anyone tell me what the standard amount of GCSE options is for the average secondary school.?

There is something similar just happened to the year below at my school. I was offered 2-3 sciences (or applied science), 3 options (e.g. history, media, art, textiles etc.), 1 or 2 modern foreign languages (3 in the case of anyone studying a 3rd currently). I could also do short course PE. So in your son’s case this sounds very unfair. I think a reason for this nowadays is to limit the amount of exams and subjects students do in order for them to be able to concentrate better on what they have chosen to get better results. Stupid really because my school has always gotten great exam results with many more subjects offered. If you are worried about this, I would suggest speaking to a headteacher or head of year/ house about these concerns.
