Can anyone tell me the structure of carbon fibre reinforced plastic?
carbon fibre is strands of glass (like hair) that have have had carbon added, when you add carbon to anything eg. steel, it gives you added hardness (and also brittleness). The strands of glass fibres are then layered vertical and then horizontal (giving squares), this makes it stronger then if u arranged them all going the same way. try grabbing hair and pull it vertially and then horrizontally and see which is easier. The fibre which is now a sort of fabric is strong but is easy to bend like a tshirt because it is not rigid, to do this we add plastic resin which will dry and hardern giving us a very strong (but not flexable) panel.
