The proper name is a Dachshund. A Dachshund is a short-legged, elongated dog breed of the hound family. The name ‘Dachshund’ is of German origin and literally means “Badger dog,” from ‘Dachs and Hund. Because of their long, narrow build, they are sometimes nicknamed: Hot dog, Wiener dog or Sausage dog. Their coat varies from each Dachshund. Some have long coats, smooth coats or wiry coats. A Dachshund is one of the dwarf breeds. Other dwarf breeds include Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and the Basset Hound.
