Dave: Although the term running line is commonly used, I think what you are referring to are shooting lines. The running line is the thinner line behind the belly section on a WF. Almost all of the “saltwater” shooting lines that I can think of are designed for warm or tropical water use. Those lines featuring a braided multifilament core are usually more supple than those with braided monofilament cores. The monocore lines I have used tend to be more supple, but more prone to memory than braided core lines. If you want to fish in the upwelling waters of the California coast, where temps of 11 degrees C are not uncommon, the standard freshwater shooting lines are often the best choice. I am not aware of any adjustments to the coatings to address abrasion, per se. I guess it is possible that because the newer lines use dry lubricants and thus stay clean longer, they are less susceptible to wear. I have no direct proof of this, however.
