In early September, Greek National TV’s (NET) crew visited the Archipelagos research station in Faros, Ikaria and interviewed the members of the scientific team while also filming part of the research activities. The journalists joined Nireas’ crew on a research expedition, as part of the marine mammal studies which Archipelagos is conducting and had the rare opportunity of filming the behaviour of a small pod of Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus). In this way, the expectations of the tv crew were fulfilled in the best possible way, while also as these where shown on TV, it helped inform the wider public that the Eastern Aegean is an important part of the migratory route of marine mammals. Archipelagos have once again highlighted the conservational importance of the region, as well as the threats and continued degradation that exist for marine mammals and ecosystems because of human intervention.
