You can safely delete any of the icons that represent shortcuts to network shares, and you can also disable the automatic search for network shares, using the following steps: 1. Open any system folder (My Computer, My Network Places, or Windows Explorer) and choose Tools, Folder Options, to open the Folder Options dialog. 2. Click the View tab. 3. In the Advanced Settings list, click the check box next to Automatically Search for Network Folders and Printers check box to clear the check mark. 4. Click OK.

When you open My Network Places and you see all the past network connections, you can just select them and delete them. Do not delete your “Network Connections”, just items like shared drives and network printer shares you picked up. You are only deleting the reference to share not the actual item.

Select the network places you want to remove, right click —>Delete. This will send the folders you delete to the recycle bin. To delete them for ever, select the places you want to delete, press shift+Delete.
