It was 11:40 PM, April 14, 1912. RMS Titanic Captain Edward J. Smith had ignored seven ice warnings from his crew, despite the glassy water that fated evening. The designer Thomas Andrews and managing director Joseph Bruce Ismay wanted to give the media something new to headline the newspapers. They chose to test Titanic’s speed. So Captain Smith ordered the Titanic’s last rudder to start up. They were traveling full-speed. Frederick Fleet and Reginald Lee, lookouts in the crow’s nest, noticed a large silhouette straight in front of the bow. As the ship neared the figure, Fleet and Lee gazed in horror at what lay ahead of Titanic. Quickly, Fleet called the wheelhouse, where James Moody picked up the call. “Iceberg, right ahead!” was Fleet’s cry.
