Can anyone tell me diffrent kinds of uniforms worn by soldiers in the civil war?
There were many variations of uniforms on both sides of the American Civil War. The common idea is a blue uniform for the Union troops and gray for the Confederate troops. The uniform of a regiment has often unique to the regiment. Aside from the common blue and gray, some regiments had green uniforms. Several units, such as the Zouves had colorful uniforms with red baggy tousers and a red fez. In contrast, many Confederates had simple butternut uniforms. There are many books about uniforms of the American Civil War. I would suggest the Osprey series for Great Britain; they can be pricey, but have nice color plates. You could also google images of Civil War uniforms, they should show the many varieties of uniforms.
