Can anyone tell me about the “Queen Mab” speech in Romeo and Juliet?
That’s the mercutio speech, right? Well, Queen Mab was the fairyland Queen. the fairies back then were thought to be fickle and mischevious. Mercutio starts and describes her wagon which is, well, self-explanatory. He then goes on to explain that she travels at night affecting people’s minds. Allow me to paraphrase: If she goes through a Lover’s mind, they dream of love. If she drives over a courtier’s knee, they dream of girls. If she drives over a lawyer’s fingers, they dream of getting paid for working. If she drives over a lady’s lips, they dream of kissing. But she often will cause plaugues if she is angry.
