Can anyone tell me a little about cot death?

The common explanation is that babies fall asleep so deeply that they forget to breath and then die. If woken up in the right moment, they remember to breath again and stay alive. There might be underlying causes, but we do not know yet what they are. There are a couple of things known, that can increase the risk: – sleeping on the belly, – overheating (as in too much sleep clothing, too warm rooms), – exposure to smoking, – not breastfeeding, – generally the problem occurs more often in socially weak families, – low weight infants are at a somewhat higher risk. Cot Death is very rare, and it occurs mostly between two and four months of age. It is usually assumed that once the baby learns to turn around by him/herself the danger of Cot Death becomes minimal.
