the mitochondrion is the powerhouse of the cell. It is the site of ATP production (ATP is the energy used by the cell). Chromatin is the long strands of DNA in the nucleus. It holds the genetic information. Cytoplasm is the gel-like substance filling the cell (called the cytosol) and it contents (cytoplasmic organelles) Vacuoles are water reservoir. When it is filled with water it presses against the cell wall in plant cells to provide turgor pressure. This aids in cell rigidity. The cell wall is only found in plant cells. It is made of cellulose and surrounds the cell. It provides protection and support for the cell, and makes the cell more rigid. The cell membrane has a phospolipid bilayer. It encloses the cell creating a boundary between the cell’s interior and the exterior. It is selectively permeable, which means that it chooses which substances enter and exit the cell.
