Can anyone share interesting experiences/anecdotes in interacting with managers from different cultural backgrounds ?
Having worked with Managers of different cultural backgrounds in my career from Europe, USA, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Singapore and the Philippines the best way to be able to interact with them is to have an understanding (and one does this by reasearch and being openminded) of the history and the culture of the person you are interacting with. It also pays to try and find out what the other person’s cutlure or perception of your own culture is. I can say that I have had very good experiences with everyone from another nationality that I have worked with by doing what I said above. It is also best never to assume or mold others into your own culture – even if you are in fact more senior to them. In fact it is more important that if you are senior to managers (or employees) with cultural background that you come across as open minded and willing to learn from your work experience, this is a sign of maturity and a sign of professionalism.
