Can anyone share any ground-breaking ideas, interesting organizations to look at, or perhaps non-traditional fundraising resources?
I listened to an interesting article on the Economist podcast about how Do Something, a youth nonprofit org in NY that is simply wonderful in supporting young people and their passion to better the world, has basically reshaped their fundraising strategy. They now take on “investors” and even offer slick materials promoting what Do Something does, to encourage raising the several million dollars they need to expand. Obviously, no funder actually makes any money because the stock is non-existent, but the president said she’d step down if Do Something isn’t performing as well with the donated money as predicted down the road. Of course, the Economist website isn’t loading for me, so I can’t point to a link, but the article had several others orgs who are doing similar things to change the way people think of what a funder can do for an organization. I’m interested to see what others have to say as well!
