Can anyone recommend a good book on understanding global financial markets?

Stephen Valdez’s “Introduction to Global Financial Markets” remains as far as I am concerned head and shoulders above the rest as far as an introduction goes. He starts from the very beginning and describes the purposes of various financial asset classes, and from there describes how they are related to each other. The link is, as you might guess, a link to the book on Amazon.
