Can anyone recommend a Firewire (IEEE 1394) chip set?

I’m working on a Java based 3D multimedia platform that will be using a Firewire interface to communicate back to the host computer. I’m looking for a chip set that does “not” require a PCI or PCI Express interface as this is an embedded application. I will also need some sort of eval card for prototyping. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
