Firstly let list the types of energy source and then we can look at the technologies used to actually generate the power: 1. Sources Solar Wind Nuclear Gas Oil Household Waste Wood Chip Chicken Litter General Biomass Hydroelectric (Dams) Hydroelectric (running Rivers) Hydroelectric (water pumped into high holding ponds for peak shaving) Waves Tidal Methane from Pigs Poo Geothermal I am sure that there are some others! 2. Technologies to generate power Steam turbines Gas turbines Fuel Cells Compressed air turbines Water turbines Wind Turbines Solar Cells and do not forget the latest technologies to capture harmful gas emmissions (CO2) by separating and storing back in the wells from where the oil/gas originally came. As far as I know tidal power is planned but is not in operation yet in uk.
