Can anyone name me some edibles, leguminous shrubs?
Tree Lupins are shrubby versions of the herbaceous Lupin, that is a popular plant in gardens. It has a shrubby above ground growth, though should last longer than 5 years – but you could always transplant it afterwards. Lupinus Arboureus is the botanical name. They’re attractive, flower much of the summer, attract bees and other insects too. Edit – whilst some Lupin seeds are eaten, I don’t think this particular type is – sorry for the confusion. Some lupin seeds can be poisonous, without correct preparation, in a similar way that other beans can also be. Lupins can fix Nitrogen from the atmosphere, like other leguminous plants. Bauhinia petersiana is often used as a food source, when other food is scarcer. It’s a native of Botswana, and other countries potentially, so would need a more tropical environment. Another shrubby legume is Lespedeza Bicolor, a native from Japan. Anagyris latifolia comes from the Canary Islands – not sure whether one or more of them – I know less about this p
