Can anyone knock off Reidsville?
Death, taxes and Reidsville football: some things never change. The Rams rolled through the 2A ranks last season, capping off a perfect season with their second straight state title. Reidsville has won four titles this decade, and there’s no reason to believe it won’t make it five in 2009. The Rams have won 43 or their last 44 games. Few of those contests were close. Expect Reidsville to have another high-powered offense to go along with a historically strong defense. But there are a handful of Down East programs just itching to dethrone the Rams, led by Tarboro. The Vikings fell one game short of a title last year and return a bevy of talent, led by receiver Lakevious Battle and star defender Priest Jones. Tarboro lost just twice last season, with one of those setbacks at the hands of Edgecombe county rival Southwest. The Cougars are led by Raymond Cobb, who won two state titles while coaching at North Edgecombe. Cobb’s third title could be in reach this season as Southwest Edgecombe
