Can anyone help with wood shavings?
This isn’t as easy to do as you might imagine, but it’s how pellets are made. There’s enough lignen in wood to glue itself together, if it’s compressed tight enough and under enough pressure that the wood heats up to about 180 degrees F. or so. The wood has to be ground down small enough to fit into the pellet machine die, too. I’ve seen small scale pellet mills (from China or India) on ebay for about $1000 – $1500 it seems, but you still need to start with wood (or straw, etc.) ground down small enough. The moisture content is critical, too, it has to be about 16% for it to all work. Afterwards, the pellets have to be cooled down. It looks like a complete plant to automate this process would start at about $200,000 and go up from there, that’s the part that scared me off.
