It would be difficult if not impossible. Australia has extremely strict gun control laws. The only people who can legally shoot Kangaroos are those licensed for the annual population control culling (which is limited) and outback stations (ranches). You would have to go through a police checks and a full firearm licensing to get the authority to do so. You would probably not be able to import a gun at all for the purpose you are thinking of. Remember that Kangaroos in Australia are protected under wildlife laws. Killing them without a license can lead to heavy fines or even jail time.

But the professionals are not the ones with the right to hunt. Rather the farmers have the right to hunt. My friends used to go roo spotlighting with shotguns on the property of farmers who wanted this done. Sometimes they also went shooting rabbits, pigs or fruit bats. In fact there are lots of hunting done in Australia, from sharks and ducks to kangaroos. A lot of bushies eat the meat. But you won’t be able to just go and buy or rent a gun in Australia. Which means you will have to find someone offerring hunting tours or contact a shooting club. Bushies are pretty friendly, they would welcome a canadian to come and hunt without any problem (but they will probably pay out on you).
