He birthday is disputed because birth records were not kept and many people think he was really five years older than what he claimed. He was in and out of jail as a teen where he learned to box in prison and turned pro after a one year amateur career. He continued to get in and out of jail due to fights with cops. He had ties to the mob and many believed he was murdered by the mob refusing to believe that he died of an overdose when he had a chronic phobia of needles.
