Can anyone give me any tips for fitting a laminate floor?

Oh boy! Do you want to install a laminate floor yourself? My husband and I did it. It was a lot of work. You need a good circular saw to trim the planks for length. You need a lot of blades for the saw. Leave a gap between the walls and the planks to allow for expansion and contraction. The base molding will hold the floor down, but don’t make it press too hard on the laminate or the floor won’t be able to expand or contract as a unit and gaps will form. Be very patient. Buy enough extra that you can make mistakes, because you will no matter how carefully you measure. Be certain the surface you are laying the laminate on is level (no lumps or bumps). It is somewhat “flexible”, but not terribly so. Make sure the surface is clean and smooth. If you know someone who has put down a laminate floor before, get their help. Good luck. Ours turned out really nice! We love it so much better than carpet.
