Can anyone give me a list of the most popular Eastern and Western martial arts?
The most popular martial art in the world, currently, is Korean Taekwondo, with Judo slowly falling from its former first place. There are well over a thousand different Kung Fu styles, but if you lump them all together as generic Kung Fu, then Kung Fu is second … if you keep each Kung Fu style separate, then they are all much lower on the list. Likewise with the over four hundred styles of Karate. As for western, it is Greco-Roman wrestling … Olympic style, with Israeli Krav Maga and Russian Systema both growing in popularity quickly. Boxing and fencing are somewhere on the list, but I’m not too sure where on the list to place them. I had an old link saved that led to an article listing the top 100 martial arts of the world, ranked by popularity, but the link no longer works … I will try to find an archived copy of the article …
