Can anyone give me a detailed explanation of “indecent exposure” laws in Wisconsin?
Indecent exposure applies to any place that is not ‘private’. Your back yard, in most instances, would not count. However, if you were to say, live in Wauwatosa, where all the yards are a bit closer together and tend not to be fenced or shielded from another in any way, it would be exposure. Given your property is shielded, the law cannot tell you what you must wear. (Our back yard is closed off, with a tree covering one gap and a tarp in another, making it a suitable ‘clothing optional’ outdoor space.) The same would apply to your car. If it’s in your garage, I hope you don’t have leather seats. But as soon as you hit the road, you are in a public place, and it would be considered indecent exposure. Of course, the worst thing about indecent exposure would be that you get added to the sex offenders list, as it is considered a felony and a ‘victimless’ sex crime. I would suggest buying some tarps for the yard and a blanket for the car.
