Can anyone explain what is contention Ratio 1:1?

The contention ratio is the number of people with whom you are sharing your broadband connection. Common contention ratios are 50:1 and 20:1. With 50:1, you’d never share your connection with more than 49 other people. The lower the ratio the better. 1:1 would mean you are not sharing your bandwidth with anybody.
