Can anyone enlighten me as to the attraction of Rocky Horror?”
What’s the attraction of The Rocky Horror Picture Show movie by itself? It’s campy, it’s corny. And Tim Curry in drag. And Meatloaf…getting killed and eaten….after singing a song on a motorcycle. And aliens. What more do you need? There are some pictures that are completely awful in a deliciously laughable way. This movie makes me smile it’s so out there. The songs are catchy, the acting is surprisingly well-done. And the writing just makes me want to dance and giggle at the same time. If you can love camp, if you can laugh at the absurd, then this is just a fun, FuN, fun movie! What’s the attraction of The Rocky Horror Picture Show experience? Total anarchy! It’s everything grown-ups ever told you not to do: Throw food at the movie screen, have a water fight in public, talk during a movie, swear in public, start your night at midnight. Plus it’s witty and fun. And it’s a real social experience you can share with friends and other Rocky Horor fans – what a great way to meet people
Hi! I have seen this film in the theatre hundreds of times, going every week when I was in college and travelling to other states to see shows there. So, that’s where these insights are coming from. First, Rocky Horror is a pretty unbearably bad movie. I mean, just crap. If you were to pop it in your VCR (or DVD player, I guess) and watch it at home, you’d probably turn it off before it’s done. It’s that bad. However, the theatre experience is what people are paying to get into. It has much less to do with the movie (did I mention how bad it was?) and everything to do with the people. Many theatres have a local amateur “cast” that acts out the movie while it’s going on on-screen. (Many of them get extra-nerdy when making their costumes – it’s a good place for accuracy buffs.) The audience also ge
I also saw it in a theater in Westwood when it was first released where no one shouted anything out except for one line left out of the movie from the stage version. I loved it before it was a midnight phenomenon. The movie is a crazy mix of rock music, social parody and commentary, an exploration of sexual mores, and it pokes some fun at horror movies and science fiction. It stretches gender roles and identification and goes for some pretty lame jokes at the same time. The characters of Brad and Janet are the most stereotypical white bread people imaginable and they have their experiences broadened considerably in one night. Besides, everyone is sexually attracted to the Doctor! His entrance is breathtaking. As he makes it clear in the movie, he can please everyone. Over the years since I’ve seen the Rocky Horror Picture Show theater antics grow and evolve. All the while it becomes more and more fun as each generation discovers a movie that they can be a part of. Everyone can dance th
I have seen Rocky Horror Picture Show at for Halloween a few times and it is an amazing experience. The interaction with the audience, the colourful costumes and how everyone can sing and dance to every song is amazing. I really cannot tell you what it is about it — it just is an experience that I recomend to everyone to do at least once in their lives.
