Can anyone else see that the Book of Genesis is perhaps telling of 2 very different creators?
The accepted theory amongst biblical scholars is that Genesis was edited together from several sources. As you say, it’s obvious that the editing wasn’t done very well! Genesis 1 is from what is known as the “priestly” source (known to theologians as P) and Genesis 2 is from the older E source (because it calls god Elohim). There is also a J. This goes on most of the way through Genesis – note that in one chapter Noah is told to take 2 of every kind of animal into the ark, and in another chapter 7 of every clean animal and only 2 of each unclean animal.
