Can anyone dispel the “right-brain / left-brain” theory of cognition and body function?
Scientists do not look for spiritual reasons, and are not, as of yet, confident about the placement for the higher cognitive functions. And you are right, the right brain left brain theory is an overstatement and pop psychology. We DO know certain things that show left/right hemisphere separation (lateralisation) like that the right side of the brain has a slightly larger face recognition center, and it is a general trend that the left is more active during language tasks than the right, The idea that one half is for “logic” and the other “creativity” is a huge generalisation – as both hemispheres appear capable of doing both tasks. However, there is some evidence that the right side of them brain is usually more active during tasks requiring holistic processing, and left during task requiring piecemeal processing. However, there are so many links between the two hemispheres (corpus callosum especially) that the idea of being right or left brained can be ignored HOW it is do: we can ju
