Can anyone define induced dipole-induced dipole forces?
This is also referred to as instantanious dipile-induced dipole interaction. In a symmetrical molecule, with no charge separation, and hence not a dipole, there will be charge sepatation for an instanntan by the movement of electrons to one side of the molecule. This instantanios dipole polarises the nearby molecule and thus the second one becomes an induced dipole. Now both the molecules attract each other. The next instant,this attaction between among those molecules vanishes, but dome othe molecules will be interacting in this way. In a timeaverage all the molecules come into this type of force. The existance of hydrocarbons in liquid form, the possibiliy of liquification of helium etc. are explained based on these forces.
