Can anybody explain Usenet??

The Usenet Wikipedia article gives a good background on Usenet, how it works, etc. It’s actually one of the oldest Internet technologies, dating back to the 70s, and is the ancestor of today’s Web forums, message boards and image boards. Usenet is divided into individual forums called newsgroups, and these are divided by topic. Most of these forums are for text based discussion only, but some of them (called binaries newsgroups) allow files to be posted and downloaded. Binaries newsgroups are one of the oldest methods of distributing files over the internet, and although not as popular as they once were, they are still quite widely used today. Many ISPs no longer provide access to binary newsgroups, and if your ISP doesn’t, you may need to subscribe to a premium news server such as Giganews. This costs money, and the more you download, the more you have to pay. So it’s not “downloading for free”, exactly. Good programs for downloading binaries include Microplanet Gravity or Super Gravi
