Can any type of slide be put on video and what about vertical slides?

We work with any size film inside 2″ x 2″ slide mounts. Some non-standard (square) and vertical slides, (those taken with the camera on its side) may not fill the complete TV screen because the horizontal orientation of the television. After cropping the edges we add a small black border on the left & right so that it will appear rectangular for the television screen. If it were left squared, the picture would be distorted – stretched in order to fit the TV. This may cause a slight distortion of the image or black borders to appear on each side of the picture.
