Can any real estate agent access mls listings and view houses?
It’s not as simple as it sounds. Access to MLS is NOT free. My MLS, a relatively reasonable priced one, has a ‘joining fee’ of about $1000, an annual fee of about $400, plus a monthly technology fee of about $60. AND you must either work for a real estate agency or have your own agency. Others are allowed lockbox access for specific needs, such as home inspectors and appraisers, and they only pay a lockbox fee. But they have no MLS access. In short, it’s costly and makes no sense unless you are in the business of real estate brokerage. There ARE a few rogue agents who will naively give out their website passwords to others. I fired one last year, and he had his MLS privileges revoked. It’s clearly against the rules.
