Can any one help me with a wiring diagram for a Velocette, 1952 Mk2 with BTH electrical system?
HiTony, Sent you an e-mail, but in case you didin’t get it here’s the info. Try www.classicbikeparts.co.uk/publications and click on the link Bruce Main-Smith manuals and parts list. Copies are available there for many old bikes including Velocette and you should be able to find the one you need. Not too familiar with Velocette, but I assume you have BTH magneto ignition with a seperate dynamo (either Lucas or Miller). Either way the wiring is fairly simple and straightforward on old British bikes and with a manual you shouldn’t have too many problems. The light switch is probably a Lucas one and you may be able to find a modern pattern one on a classic bike site (maybe the one above). If the engine is running hot there are several checks you can do once you have the information. Valve clearances, plug type, carb settings and ignition timing. Bear in mind that as it’s been around for a long time some parts might not be to original specs. If it has an Amal Monobloc carb the number is st
You need to repost this question stating what type of Velo it is. I suspect it is the water cooled L.E flat twin, if so check the thermostat and water pump first, if they are O.K then check the timing -could be too advanced and finally check the carburation mixture- could be running too weak. Also check that the lubrication system is O.K and especially that there is oil in it. Without knowing what model I can’t be any more help.
