CAN ANNOUNCERS FOCUS LESS ON THE MONEY XFL PLAYERS ARE MAKING?
During both NBC and UPN games, announcers kept referring to how much money XFL players were making ($5,000 for QBs, $4,500 for other positions and $3,500 for kickers). They also kept on emphasizing the $2,500 win bonus for each team. Most players are not playing for the money. It is more for the chance to play the sport they love. In baseball, you constantly see how greedy players are asking for huge contracts. XFL players are making far less, so it’s not a significant issue. The XFL announcers should focus more on the game itself, rather than the money issue. The league is supplying people with opportunities and showing NFL scouts they deserve a chance to play. THE RATINGS ARE IN The Las Vegas/New York-New Jersey game did a 9.5 national, which was very surprising considering the game was a blowout. It also helped that they moved to the Chicago/Orlando game in the fourth quarter. That really showed how much of a curiosity people had in watching this new football league. XFL and NBC off
